Popup Architecture

"ABOUT
The project POP UP HOME was elaborated by Radostina Radulova and Sarah Philine Schneider at the Institute for Building Lifecycle Management at the KIT, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in summer 2009.
Together with Camille Hoffmann, we were able to realize the POP UP HOME with the generous support of the team in summer 2011.

IDEA
The Pop Up Home is an experimental, architectural response to contemporary living conditions. The structure instantly offers a minimum of facilities to feel ubiquitously at home. It temporarily takes over a vacant space and redefines its properties and usage.

FROM 2D TO 3D
The Idea of the Pop-Up derives originally from an old paper technique. By folding a sheet of paper three dimensional space emerges and creates new spatial conditions.
By applying this on a larger scale, POP UP ARCHITECTURE offers pre-fabricated spaces for temporary use. The POP UP HOME comes as a flat package, with manageable dimensions that fit to standard trailers.

SCENARIOS
Within the "network society" in which flexibility, connectivity and individualism are progressively shaping a novel form of housing we propose the POP UP ARCHITECTURE - easily transportable, affordable, full of variations and quick to set up. It is designed for short time usage during the summer months but is also adaptable for many other forms of usage.
It is offering multiple usages depending on the pattern of furniture - possible alternatives are Pop Up Chapel, Pop Up Cinema, Pop Up Kitchen, Pop Up Meeting Room, Pop Up Atelier, Pop Up Hotel and many more."
